Get ride of those ugly swirls and scratches - We Come To You

Buffing Jaguar

To correctly remove swirls and scratches from your car, you need someone with the correct products, equipment, know how, and patience.  There are no quick ways around buffing and polishing the correct way. The quality of buffing and polishing that we offer for your car is one of the major services that set us apart from every other detail shop in the Kansas City area.

When you hear the words “show room shine” you probably think that that is the pinnacle of paint gloss.  To correct that misconception, you must know that statement is very far from the truth.  Every car, including Ferraris and Lamobroghinis, come right out of the factory needing a lot of polishing and repair.  Unless you have seen a car that has been given the quality attention to detail that is required, you haven’t come close to seeing the potential of a car’s gloss and shine.

Three types of correctable imperfections:

  • First, Scratches and swirls are caused by any abrasive being  dragged across your car’s surface.  Having your car keyed would be an extreme scratch that is normally correctable.  Most damage comes from the local automatic washes, improper washing and drying, people rubbing against your car in parking lots, or you resting items on the hood, roof, or trunk of your car.  Also, never ever write “wash me” on a dirty car.  You are scratching “wash me” into your paints surface. Scratches in your clear coat look like they do because the light is reflecting on the sharp edges of the scratches in the clear coat itself.  Thats why scratches always stick out more in the sun.  Most the time the damage, although it looks white, is not very deep.
    A swirl is just a micro-scratch.
  • Second, Oxidation (fading and dullness) is caused by the sun damaging paint that has been neglected and left unprotected.
  • Third, Orange peel on the other hand  occurs as soon as your car is painted.  Look at the texture of an orange peel.  Now, look at the texture of your paint.  It is not completely level and has a texture similar to that of an orange peel.  That is why it is called orange peel.

Though every situation is different in the amount of repair needed, there are four levels to repair clear coat scratches and swirls:

  • First, some waxes will hide light scratches and swirls by temporarily adding a round layer around the scratches sharp edge so that the light does not have an edge to reflect off of. This will only help to hide light imperfections and is not actual polishing and repair.  Covering the swirls will look good for a couple of weeks but all of your imperfections will start reappearing very soon.  All dealerships and the vast majority of detailers use a swirl covering wax to save time and money.  We see this all of the time.  Click here for an example.
  • Second, true polishing will remove micro-scratches, swirls, holograms and spider-webbing from your vehicles paint while dramatically increasing your gloss and surface reflection.
  • Third, compounding will remove light to medium scratches, oxidation, and slightly level the orange peel.  Compounding must always be followed with polishing.
  • Forth, wet sanding, buffing and polishing will remove the oxidation, scratches, swirls and, if desired, orange peel from your clear coat.  This is the absolute best way to go if you are looking to have an outstanding paint job.

Any of these steps will make your clear coat will make your paint job look better than it did when you first purchased your car.  Add a few coats of wax to that fully corrected paint job and the look is stunning. You can even take it one step further by having us apply multiple coats of wax, sealant, or our Secret Coating. Then top any of these with a few coats of topping wax and the results are absolutely jaw dropping. The Ultimate Detail and the Ultimate Gloss packages offer full wet sanding, if desired, compounding, polishing, multiple layers of our Secret Coating, multiple layers of synthetic wax, and three coats of carnauba topping wax.
